Aggression Dog Training Part Two: Food And Toy Aggression
When it comes to aggression dog training it all depends on the type of aggression that your dog has acquired. It is not uncommon to find that your dog has food and toy aggression. It is common for most dogs to become possessive of their toys, chews, bones or anything else that they consider theirs or have found in the yard or somewhere else.
One of the best ways to avoid your dog from picking up food and toy aggression is to begin at an early age and teach them how to become more social. Dogs that are unsocial may become extremely aggressive when it comes to guarding their toys and food. Especially when it comes to being around other dogs that may want what they have.
If possible while they are a puppy socializing them with other dogs and taking them to some type of dog obedient school that will teach them proper socialization skills. Just because your dog is showing signs of food and toy aggression does not mean there is something wrong; it just means that they are guarding the things that are important to them.
Never try to take away their toys and food while they are trying to guard it from anyone; unfortunately we as owners never want to believe that our dogs may bite us; however when your dog is showing these signs they may in fact bite you.
Do not get mad at your dog and show signs of anger. If you begin showing anger and becoming upset while trying to remove their food and toys; then this is going to upset the dog and make their behavior worse.
Instead try teaching them how to play fetch. You throw the toy and then they return it to you and give it to you. This will help them realize that they can trust you with their toys. Of course when it comes to food aggression the best thing you can do for your best friend is learn how to properly train him so that you both can enjoy each other. One of the best methods that I have personally used to train one of the dogs that I rescued from a shelter is this dog training guide; it has helped us develop a great relationship and will continue to help me develop him into a great companion.
