Barking Dog Behavior

August 6, 2010 · Filed Under Dog Problems

Even though you may consider your pets barking dog behavior to be cute and friendly; it does not necessarily mean that people do not take it as a form of aggressive behavior. As a pet owner you need to understand why your dog is barking; a dog tends to bark for several reasons and they are as follows:

1. Attention: Like a child a dog can only get your attention by barking. If they want to play, be fed or are just seeking attention the only way they know how is to begin barking. As they continue doing this and they notice that they get what they want; then they will continue doing it more and more because they have learned that this is what it takes to get what they want.

2. Alerting: Dogs are very territorial and of course some breeds are going to be more than others. However if they see someone on their premises that is not supposed to be; then they will alert their owner by barking.

3. Annoying: Some dogs unfortunately will find themselves barking for no reason at all. This can be very annoying and frustrating; however you as the owner have to figure out why your pet is barking and find out what you can do to stop it.

If your barking dog behavior begins to become a nuisance there could be something more deeper that you may have to try to figure out why your dog is not behaving in a manner that you would like. While there is nothing wrong with a barking dog that is just trying to get a little bit of attention or wants something and that is the only way they can express themselves; if your pet continues to do that when they see other people and they are on the leash and you begin having difficulty controlling them. Then you could be dealing with aggressive behaviors that they are demonstrating.

Of course it is important as a pet owner to know how to properly control your pet and if you do not know how to train your dog; you may consider this Dog Training Guide that will help you answer all your questions and your canine friend. Click Here
