Please help us!!! we have a bull dog- boxer mix, his name is Rex and hes 1yr and 3months old. we also have a female dog who we had a few months longer. I have a 3 month old at home and they both do pretty well with him but my concern is that rex has become VERY possesive of my husband and I in the past few weeks, when our other dog (Smash) comes close to either one of us rex snaps and they start to fight. They never fought before this, they always got along great. I must admit weve sort of babied him. both of our dogs are rescues, and when we got him home we dicovered he had a broken leg and pnuemonia. He also wouldnt eat for about 2 weeks, so you can understand why he got special attention, but it still doesnt explain why now, 6 months after his full recovery, he is being aggresive. At this time we neither have the time nor money to bring him to "official" training and i am wide open to suggestions. please help, i love this dog too much to have to give him away. Thank you so much!

I AM DOG SITTING A SHARPE FOR A NEIGHBOR AND THE DOG SINCE HAS BECOME AGGRESIVE AND STARTED SNAPPING AT ME. I CANT GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO HIM TO EVEN GET A LEASH ON HIM TO TAKE HIM OUT TO THE RESTROOM. ANY SUGGUSTIONS OFFERED WOULD BE A BLESSING.

I have recently become a dog kennel manager. I have a lot of experience with dogs, but would like to better educate myself how to handle many dogs at a time and their behavior issues when kenneling. Do you have any suggestions on information for this?

Thanks

Hey there,

My name is Aoife and I'm living in the republic of Ireland and i need some advice!! Me and my partner recently moved into a new house and we wanted to get a dog. We went to an animal sanctuary and fell in love with an adorable staffie and seeing as i had a staffie cross for 16 years without any problems, we decided to take him because we didn't want anyone to take him and use him for fighting as he was so placid! Anyway, he's a total pet around people, very playfull, very loyal and very friendly, everyone just loves him but the problem is that he was already 3 when we got him and we don't really "know" him. We have him about 6weeks and in the space of those two weeks he has made attacks on two dogs. The first dog was some sort of terrier ( making him a lot smaller) and from the moment that dog met Buster (our dogs name) did not like him, he acted very aggresive towards him and seemed very uncomfortable but he was restrained. Unfortunalty, a while later we made a misjudgment and let him off the lead to run around and play ( which he loves) and then he spotted this same dog and darted off after him, picking him up and locking his jaw. It took two grown men to pry him off the small dog and it was obvious the extent of the injuries. Luckily we got away with a warning from the gardai and were told his breed MUST be muzzled after the dangerous dog list was brought into Ireland in 1991. We got him a muzzle and everything was fine but the other day we had a BBQ at the front of our house and he sat out all day with us in the sun playing with the neighbours dog and my mothers dog (who are both small bitches) and there was not a bother on him. He is incredibly social around people and to be honest, i just loved having him outside with us all day. He was out for about 6hours with us and then suddenly we had ours back turned for two mins and he was off the road, around the corner and had attacked a puppy of a neighbour. Thankfully his jaw did not lock and there was no obvious injuries or blood that we could see on the pup but then later we were told that the pup may have to be put down. We havn't heard anything since but that is a very horrible thought to imagine our dog causing another family so much pain if the dog was put down.
We had him neutered after the first attack as we were told that would help but i'm not sure if it has.
The main reason i am writing to you is because in september we are expecting a baby girl and obviously her safety is the most important thing to us. We have become SO attached to the dog and we REALLY love him and really really don't want to give him back. He is part of the family at this stage and like i said, he is terrific around people and children so far that we've seen. Obviously if it came to him or the baby we would give him back but is there any advice you can give us?? Would we be mad to keep him with a baby on the way or is there an alternative for people in our position that you could suggest? What about obedience classes? Like i said, he has given us no reason to think he would be a threat to the baby as he is great with people but would he see the baby as a person? We have read on numerous occasions that staffs are great with children but the we havn't had him his whole life so does that leave us with no option. It also says that staffs DO NOT like other dogs so is that normal what he did? Isn't that what dogs do? Was it just our neglegence of the laws that caused the fights or do you think it's an aggresive streak in him?

If there was anything at all you could suggest for us to do or any advice you could give us i would be so gratfull. I'd hate to give him up but if I had to for the sake of my little girl then i would of course. I can't do it without some advice though as i do not want to give up on him yet.

Please write back when ever you get a chance,
Thanks!

I have a 2 yr old, male border collie. I have had him since 8 wks old. He seems to be a really nervous dog.pretty jumpy and shows aggession to kids and anyone besides my husband and I. He runs up to new ppl happy and excited to see them, lets them pet him, then trys to bite or show his teeth to them. He's even done it to family members he has met 100 times. He loves attention, wants to be pet always. And seems very loving with us But will sometimes just snap, out of the blue to ppl he has already met. I sure he could be getting more exercise, but I dont know how to be stopping this biting and showing his teeth. We have young nefews and need him tobehave around kids. Im scared my husband will want to give him away. We really need your help.

We have recently added a new dog to our family after losing one and we already have a 4 year old female Japanese Chin we added a new male Lhasa apso . He is 9 months old now had him from 7 weeks and he is verrrrry violent towards her she is doing nothing to provoke this aggressive violent behavior. Only with our female dog he is this way not with others or with people to date.
This is also a concern as we planned on breeding the two.. have you any advise on this matter?
However they do enjoy each others company aswell as play , but latly he has worsened as far as the aggression towards her.I have been puting him in a cage started this today whenever i see he is about to attack her..is this a method thats recomended ?

 Thank you ... Regards Luke

i agree when you said "Many people do not fully understand how to implement obedience training..." because whenever i have new puppies, its always a norm to show them basic, like "yes" or "no" especially when they are biting things they are not suppose to so all my four dogs are very obedient and they knew when they did something wrong. however in my friend's case, she got dogs that bites shoes, slippers, you name it! but she tried disciplining them once and when she see that they still do it, she just let them and her reason is that her dogs are just stupid. quite a pity, her dogs are very nice dogs but untrained.

Maybe I'm missing something here because I've only looked at three articles, but none of them state anything really of significance. For instance, this article is titled "Obedience Training" but nothing is stated except that you should train your animal (if you have a pet this should be obvious).....some actual tips would be nice. I do like the site arrangement.
