Crate Training A Dog

August 24, 2010 · Filed Under Types Of Training

Many people do not like to think about crate training a dog because they tend to believe that it is animal abuse to put a dog into a crate. However there is nothing wrong with crate training a dog and I have personally discovered that this is one of the best ways to train a dog so that they will behave properly and will learn how to act.

As a matter of fact today many pet stores off all types of crates that you can purchase to begin crate training a dog. I have personally found that with the right type of training; your dog will grow to feel that it is their own place. My own dog loves it and when it is time to go to sleep; they automatically get into the crate when I say that it is time to go to sleep. They have learned to associate it with their own place.

Of course when you consider crate training a dog; there are some things that you should take into consider so that you can make it a pleasant experience for you and your friend:

1. Size: The size of the crate will depend on how big your dog is. Of course you want to give them room to be comfortable and not too tight. If it is a puppy that you have in a crate and they have too much room; then try putting up a piece of cardboard in the middle of the crate to make it smaller. If you give them too much room; then they may go to one end of the crate and use the bathroom in the middle of the night. I found this out personally when my dog was a puppy; she did not want to pee on her bed; yet she had enough room in the crate to go bathroom in the back of the crate.

2. Discipline: Never try disciplining your canine friend and then make them get into the crate. They will begin to associate the crate with bad behavior and they will learn to despise the crate.

I have personally found that this can be one of the easiest ways to train your dog. Of course if you want to learn other ways to discipline your best friend then you may want to consider using some of the techniques that are taught in this Dog Training Book.
